Pools set for second-round 2019 CEV U16 Women / U17 Men Volleyball European Championships qualifiers
Luxembourg, February 8, 2019. The stars in the making of European Volleyball will be taking to the court again in April for the second and last round of qualifications for the 2019 CEV U16 Women / U17 Men Volleyball European Championships. Twenty teams will contest the women’s qualifiers and another 20 the men’s tournaments, with five and six spots at stake to join the continental showpiece for these age groups. The Final Rounds will be taking place later this summer in Italy/Croatia and Bulgaria for U16 women and U17 men, respectively.
The second-round qualifiers will run from April 25 to 28, 2019. The five pool winners will qualify for the #EuroVolleyU16W Finals, while there are six tickets at stake for the #EuroVolleyU17M Final Round, which will go to the five pool winners and to the best runner-up across all pools.
The relevant host cities of the above qualifiers are Sofia (Bulgaria), Herceg Novi (Montenegro), Twardogora (Poland), Ploiesti (Romania), Anapa (Russia), Ub and Belgrade (Serbia, U16 Women and U17 Men, respectively) and Zaporizhzhya (Ukraine).
It is the second edition of the U16 Women / U17 Men European Championships, with Italy as the gold medal winners from the inaugural edition held in 2017.
A number of teams have qualified for the Finals already following completion of the 1st qualifying round organised by the respective Zonal Associations last year / earlier this year. These are:
U16 Women: Italy and Croatia (hosts); Turkey (BVA), Russia (EEVZA), Slovenia (MEVZA), Finland (NEVZA), Belgium (WEVZA).
U17 Men: Bulgaria (hosts); Turkey (BVA), Poland (EEVZA), Czech Republic (MEVZA), Finland (NEVZA), Italy (WEVZA).
