Historic EEVZA tournament underway in Yerevan

Wednesday 9th of September 0207

Yerevan, Armenia, September 9, 2017. As many as 15 teams from eight countries are competing this weekend in Yerevan for the first-ever EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour tournament held in the Armenian capital.

The programme of the first competition day included ten matches, and all of them were interesting to watch. The most exciting featured Evgen Zhuravel/Iaroslav Gordieiev (UKR) and Taras Myskiv/Denis Privalov (RUS), with the Ukrainians eventually prevailing after three close sets (21-16, 15-21, 20-18).

Two young teams are representing the host country on home sand. Unfortunately, Razmik Hakobyan/Arman Miskaryan had to leave the competition after suffering two consecutive losses. The second Armenian team, Ashot Balabekyan/Andre Simoni are still ‘alive’ in the competition and they will resume their campaign in Round 2.

Twelve matches of the second and third rounds are due to take place on Saturday, with the medal matches following then on Sunday.
