Highly successful CLF4Kazan cements bond between CEV and Russian Volleyball
Kazan, Russia, May 14, 2018. The city of Kazan lived up to its reputation as the sports capital of Russia as the capital of Tatarstan delivered a truly memorable Final Four of the 2018 men’s CEV Volleyball Champions League. CEV President Aleksandar Boričić acknowledged the outstanding job done by the local organisers and, at the same time, Russia’s Volleyball family deserved an appreciation to his work at the helm of European Volleyball and commitment to growing the sport.
The highest-ranking authorities in Russian Volleyball, including Mr Nikolai Patrushev, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV), attended the Final Four at Basket-Hall. Mr Patrushev, together with Mr Rafkat Kantyukov, President of the Volleyball club Zenit KAZAN and General Director of Gazprom Tatarstan, and Mr Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the Tatarstan Parliament and President of the Tatarstan Volleyball Federation, presented Mr Boričić with a special plate in recognition of the close and productive cooperation with the CEV.
The pinnacle of the weekend came with the iconic ‘trophy moment’ when the CEV President awarded the captain of Zenit KAZAN, Alexander Butko, with the cup designed for the winners of the most prestigious competition in men’s club Volleyball. Zenit KAZAN lifted the trophy for a record sixth time – and fourth in a row, an unprecedented feat since the inception of the Champions League back in the 2000-2001 season.
The Final Four in Kazan was an experience to remember for all those involved – for the quality of the matches, especially when it comes to the final fixture featuring hosts Zenit KAZAN and Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA, as well as for the great show delivered in terms of sports presentation, entertainment and fan engagement. The event in the capital of Tatarstan showed that the Champions League is much more than ‘just’ the world’s elite club competition – but rather a show unfolding both on and off the court mesmerising the spectators and encaptivating them like never before.
