2017 EEVZA Beach Volleyball season to start next week in Ukraine

Friday 12th of May 2017

Kyiv, Ukraine, May 12, 2017. The 2017 edition of the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour will start next week in Koropove – after the organisers in Ukraine expressed their intention to deliver a women’s-only event before the city of Kharkiv plays host to a men’s CEV Satellite later in July.

The event will be taking place at Koropove from May 19 to 21, where all necessary infrastructure is available for the organisation of a Beach Volleyball tournament on the shores of the Severskii Donec River. This venue (see picture) has already played host to a number of national events in recent times – including stops of the Ukrainian national championship and the Ukrainian national cup. The EEVZA tournament will be the first international Beach Volleyball competition to take place at Koropove – where the participating teams will be able to enjoy Ukrainian hospitality as well as the beauty of the surrounding scenery.

As many as 25 teams have registered for participation so far, with Poland and Lithuania sending three teams each to Ukraine. Teams from Latvia are also due to compete at Koropove, along with as many as 17 teams from the host country, Ukraine. In order to improve the cooperation among Zonal Associations, the organisers have granted a wild card to a team from Scotland, Lynne Beattie and Melissa Coutts.

The event at Koropove will include a qualification round and a main draw, with up to 16 teams competing in the qualifying rounds and eight eventually advancing to the main draw. The 24 teams in the Main Draw will be divided into eight pools of three teams each with the top two from each group moving on to the playoff stage of the competition.

Live streaming for the final stages of the tournament will be available on the EEVZA as well as on the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation’s websites – and on XSPORT channel too.
