Latvia and Croatia top Pools A and B in Silver #EuroLeagueM

Luxembourg, May 23, 2018. Latvia and Croatia confirmed their strong start to the CEV Silver European League. Both secured two victories in as many matches after Leg 2, becoming the top teams in their respective Pools A and B. On Wednesday Latvia needed three sets only to beat the Former Y.R. of Macedonia, while Austria claimed second place in Pool A and recorded their first victory in the competition after a 3-0 win over Kosovo. In Pool B, Croatia required four sets to win against Belarus. Albania followed their example with a 3-1 win against Hungary, but the team remain third in Pool B.

CEV President Aleksandar Boričić acknowledged the outstanding job done by the local organisers and, at the same time, Russia’s Volleyball family deserved an appreciation to his work at the helm of European Volleyball and commitment to growing the sport.

Kazan, Russia, May 13, 2018. Zenit KAZAN came back from a scary deficit in the fourth set as well as in the tiebreak to cancel a match point for Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA and cash their second opportunity for an eventual 3-2 victory (29-27, 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 17-15) to add a record overall sixth and fourth straight CEV Volleyball Champions League crown to their resume. This accounts for Russia’s seventh consecutive title in Europe’s elite club competition – a reign that has been lasting since Zenit KAZAN claimed another just as dramatic final with PGE Skra BELCHATOW back in 2012 in Lodz. A sell-out crowd of 7,000 fans celebrated yet another triumph for the team coached by Vladimir Alekno – as Wilfredo Leon and Maxim Mikhailov scored together as many as 57 points for the Russian side in the title-deciding match at Basket-Hall. Cucine Lube had to be content with silver, which is nevertheless their best result in the competition since they won the title in 2002.

Zenit hope to make history when hosting CLVolleyM Finals in Kazan

Kazan, Russia, May 10, 2018. With their record of 10 titles in the Russian national league and five CEV Champions League crowns, Zenit KAZAN are definitely the most successful men’s Volleyball team of the past decade. The invincible ‘armada’ from the capital of Tatarstan added earlier this season the only accolade that was still missing from their resume when claiming top honours from the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in Poland. The pressure is slowly mounting as Zenit are hosting the Final Four tournament of the 2018 CEV Volleyball Champions League at home – and the preparations are up and running at Basket-Hall, where 7,000 fans will be following the ‘ultimate Volleyball part of the year’.
